I tucked the note back inside the envelope and laid it on top of the drawing on my nightstand. Peeling back the wrapping paper, I laughed as I saw what all the box included. There was a race car figurine, coloring books, and a puzzle. The deeper I dug, the more notes and drawings from Dakota were there too. There was also a cake mix box and a yo-yo. Just all sorts of random things that didn't make sense, other than they were things I’d shared with them.

At the very bottom of the box was where I found the jackpot. There were pictures - selfies of Dakota and Jackson. In some of them, they had silly faces. In others, they were smiling wide.

My emotions were in a severe spiral at that point. I felt like I was losing myself even more to this little family.

Under the pictures of the two of them, I found one last item. Sobs tore through me once I brought the final photo from the box.

Somehow, he'd gotten a photo of the three of us together at the market. It was taken from a side angle, meaning it was likely one of the other ranch hands who’d nabbed it.

Maybe Sean or Atticus.

Who knew?

The photo showed me holding Dakota while Jackson moved some little hairs from his eyes. I remembered the moment distinctly. Jackson had tucked the hair behind his ear and made an offhanded comment about him needing a trim.

The way I was looking at Jackson and him at me was captured forever in the photo. It looked a lot like love.

I didn't think it was possible to love someone that fast. But all my emotions were telling me I was pretty damn close, if not all the way there.

Also, I couldn't deny the picture we painted in the photo. We looked like a family, like a unit. I couldn't see it any other way.

I wondered if that was why Jackson had sent me the photo. If that was why he left it as the very last thing on bottom because he knew that I would take my time to pick through every piece he sent.

With everything laid out on my bed, I pulled up my phone and took a picture. I texted it to Jackson.

Beau: I love my gift. Thank you, Daddy!
